Company Experience
Almost 40 years ago, BFI began serving Chattanooga residents and businesses and became the oldest continually operating waste and recycling company in the Chattanooga area. In the summer of 1999, BFI merged with Allied Waste and continued to deliver outstanding environmental leadership in and around the Chattanooga area.
Allied Waste Services was founded more than 50 years ago as a small business with big ambitions. By June 2008, Allied had grown into the nation's second largest waste service company with over 22,000 employees serving over eight million customers and generating more than $6 billion in revenue. A Fortune 500 company, Allied had assembled an integrated network of waste collection with recycling and disposal operations that served 39 states, over 100 major U.S. markets, and Puerto Rico.
In June 2008, Republic Services and Allied Waste announced plans to merge. With the completion of the merger between Republic Services and Allied Waste Industries, Inc. in December 2008, two leading waste services and environmental companies joined to capitalize on their strengths in order to benefit customers, employees, shareholders and the environment.
The new company provides collection, recycling and disposal services to over 13 million residential, commercial and industrial customers monthly through its network of 427 collection companies, 255 Transfer Stations and 86 MRFs in over 40 States and Puerto Rico.
